Saving wild birds from outdoor cats

Why Birdsbesafe Helps Birds

Yesterday, Birdsbesafe heard from a skeptic. It wasn't the first time, and no, they weren't a customer. They just had heard of what we claimed: Birdsbesafe Cat Collars can help protect birds from cats--and they were skeptical. I can understand that, so here are a few related thoughts.

Should all cats just stay indoors already and stop killing anything?

Outdoor cats will never seem like a good idea to some people who don't caretake outdoor cats. It's very hard, if not impossible, to sway those people who wish all cats would stay indoors, away from all birds and wildlife of all kinds. You know, I understand. Cats are hunting wildlife, while returning to be fed, petted and sleep on the couch. Not really fair. I have an indoor cat now, myself, no longer an outdoor one after George, the handsome cat in the header, passed.

But, being an optimistic pragmatist, I know people are going to let cats outdoors to... do cat things like pee and hunt and roam around. In the US, one in two households has a cat. 65% are estimated to go outdoors. It just is not my mission to change their minds. I guess I'm not that type of person or something. I wanted to take on something that seemed possible to me.

So, Birdsbesafe, as we see it, has a role to play until everyone is keeping their cats indoors. A partial solution is better than no solution and our products reduce bird losses significantly.

Who says Birdsbesafe reduces bird losses significantly for the typical cat?

Birdsbesafe LLC, which is my business, and I, its owner say so. But we are selling them, a skeptic would say. Let's break this into two blog entries to cover this concern completely.
