Saving wild birds from outdoor cats

Spring Birds Meet Birdsbesafe

Spring has really sprung here in Vermont. I’ve been birdwatching and seen some of my favorite warblers right in my yard. The Blackburnian warbler is a favorite! Always a thrill.

Although the warblers aren’t usually targets for hunting cats because they are most often high up in trees, the more ground-dwelling birds can be easier prey. Try to keep your cat indoors during the dawn hunting hours if you can. And of course, best of all, would be to use the Birdsbesafe Cat Collar.

Before wearing the Birdsbesafe Cat Collar, my cat was prone to hunting the gorgeous thrushes of Vermont (Oven bird, wood thrush and hermit thrush). One of my great satisfactions now that he wears the anti-hunting collar is that I don’t have to be worried about these beautiful birds getting hunted.

Actually, I have found that my formerly dedicated-hunter cat has “retired” from hunting birds. He “sleeps in” most days, and he stays inside most of the day out of his own choice.

I think he just gave up on bird-hunting after he discovered that he was failing at his old tactics. With the bright collar on, the birds had the advantage of seeing him first!

So, as a birdwatcher, I can enjoy spring with an easier mind here. I hope you’ll have the same experience.

And, by the way, my cat was an outdoor cat so much before I had him that I had to teach him to be petted and relax. It took about three years. The last year or more, with Birdsbesafe Cat Collar on, he’s turned into an affectionate, people-oriented, often purring cat! Bonus!
