I can’t definitively swear that it works. But I haven’t seen any new evidence of bird kills. After she killed three Lesser Goldens in one day, I had to do something or I was going to do something drastic.
I take the collar off at night and, after removing accumulated hair every morning from the fabric, put it back on her before she can go outside. After crooning, and praising her for wearing it for a couple days, she now submits to my putting it on her. After making sure the length of the break away collar is flat, not twisted inside the fabric, I approach from behind and below her eyes. The break away collar is hard to snap together, but it seems to work the way it was designed .
When I purchased this collar, my male cat was bringing a minimum of a bird a day into the house (mostly finches). He has worn the collar for 3 weeks now and has brought a hummingbird in the house (which I was able to rescue and put back outside.).
I have found zero dead hummingbirds since our cat started wearing this collar. He tolerates the collar well and I highly recommend it!
My nine-year old cat is an avid hunter. She was bringing in a kill, or live bird almost every day. I originally purchased the giant bell for her collar from this company and it worked for four days. This collar has worked now for three weeks. No birds, lizards, or rats (dead or alive) in my house for THREE WEEKS!!! Whereas I used to tentatively walk into my kitchen every morning, steeling myself for some level of carnage requiring a cleanup crew, I can now start my mornings on a joyful note. I highly recommend this product. If you have a bell on your cat's collar that you want to keep, I recommend putting a small stitch on each end of the openings to keep the bell from sliding into the fabric tube. The tube is rather wide and presents some issues, but they're not insurmountable - and applying a couple of small stitches helps a lot.
Sasha had killed five birds within 10 days (two on one day), then I put him one of the collars from the three-pack, and he has only able to catch one bird in the last month (as far as I know - I am pretty sure he takes all of his catches into the house). Kudos!
I've been using birdsbesafe collars for two years now. My cat used to catch and bring birds inside my house often (one time 5 birds in a week, yikes). In the past two years I have seen him catch maybe 3 birds, so the collars seem to help considerably.
I give him a treat when I put the collar on or take it off and he really doesn't seem to mind it at all. He has lost two collars, dunno know where or how but I guess that's good proof that the breakaway works!
Also really appreciate the reflective trim and I love how the ruffs make him look like a goofy little clown <3
Certainly cut down on the bird deaths but not entirely. The “clown collar” is well made; be certain to have your own internal collar. Definitely take it off when kitty is indoors, tends to bother his neck-perhaps all of the folds of the collar?
